Taiwan Mobile Forms 5G National Team with Five Local Manufacturers for Overseas Expansion
July 07, 2023
Taiwan Mobile recently announced its collaboration with five Taiwanese manufacturers to form a national team dedicated to 5G networks, the Commercial Daily reported on July 7. The five companies involved in this collaboration are Wistron, Quanta Cloud Technology, HwaCom System, NextDrive, and MaycharmArcade. The team's objective is to launch about 30 5G dedicated projects and involve around 300 local companies from a wide range of industries, including smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, smart retail, smart finance, and smart logistics. The AIoT applications developed by this national team will eventually be exported to overseas markets.
As part of their initial initiative, they have introduced several services in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. These include AR interactive real-time navigation, smart advertising displays with instant multilingual translation, and a 5G mobile multifunctional robot. The park is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2024. The Taiwanese government has allocated NT$49 billion (US$1.6 billion) for the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program to support the construction of 5G networks. Since 2016, the government has completed 249 projects related to smart city and rural development, with 88 of them being exported overseas.
The Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), a major government think tank and leading research institute in Taiwan, projects that the shipment volume of Taiwan's 5G FWA CPE (Fixed Wireless Access Customer Premises Equipment) will reach 2.48 million units in the first half of 2023 and 3.06 million units in the second half. This represents a year-on-year growth of 35.5% and 14.6%, respectively.
